General Plan Update

The City of El Centro General Plan is the big-picture policy document that provides a vision for our City’s future. Each chapter of the General Plan, called an element, guides the City’s approach to a particular issue. The Land Use Element tells the City where and how different types of land use should be allowed. The Mobility Element outlines the transportation network for different types of travel within El Centro. The Environmental Justice Element identifies ways that the City can address pollution and other environmental concerns that impact the people and habitat within El Centro.

Public participation is an essential part of the General Plan Update process, and we want to hear from you. Share your ideas and opinions about the update by taking our survey, or attend one of the outreach events to provide your input on the future of El Centro.

What is a General Plan?

Our future

The City of El Centro is working on updating its General Plan to reflect the City’s future vision and implementation plan for the next 20 years.

Nuestra futura

A General Plan provides guidance as to how a community will grow and develop. The 3 main topics this General Plan update will focus on are:

  • Land Use (Places and Spaces)

  • Mobility (How We Get Around)

  • Environmental Justice (Healthy People and a Healthy Community)
